Instructions
Use the Digital Scale to weigh the mass of the 3 inch Aluminum Cylinder. Record the mass of the cylinder. Use the Digital Thermometer to determine Room Temperature and the temperature of the water in the beakers.
Fill two 1000ml Beakers each with 600ml of tap water. The water of the beakers should should start at Room Temperature.
Connect the Meeker Burner to demonstration table source. Light the Meeker Burner with Propane Lighter. Place burner underneath the Tripod. Place one of the beakers on top of tripod. Then, using the Channel Locks, carefully place the 3 inch Aluminum Cylinder inside of that beaker. Heat the system until the temperature reaches 100C. The other beaker remains at room temperature up to this point.
Using the Channel Locks remove the Aluminum Cylinder from the heated beaker and place it into the room temperature beaker. If needed use Heat Safety Gloves. Do Not Touch Cylinder with bare hands. Once submerged the cylinder will transfer its excess heat to the water of the second beaker. Observe and Record the new temperature of the water using the Digital Thermometer Probe.
Note: The Camera can be used to project the display of the digital thermometer onto the screens or a student can be used to read the meter for the class.
