Shakyamuni Buddha. Dressed in the robes of a monk, Shakyamuni Buddha is seated on a lotus throne atop an architectural pediment. His right hand is in the touching the earth mudra; his left hand on his lap is in the attitude of "witness." Flanking him are his two great disciples, the Arhats Shariputra and Maudgalyayana. Surrounding figures are Buddhas and the sixteen Arhats.
