Badhra. (May also be Panthaka or Gopaka, because the attribute of all three is a book.) One of the sixteen great arhats (or Buddhist saints, the original disciples of the Buddha), Badhra is seated on a rocky island, holding a book in his right hand. He is flanked by two arhats. At the top is a Bodhisattva and two monks. At the bottom are two deities: Ganesha in the center and the wrathful deity Heruka on the left. This painting belongs to the Jonangpa Tradition of Himalayan Buddhism, which originated in South Central Tibet in the late 13th century. 18th century.
