Description

Teacher (Lama). This painting seems to represent one of the Tibetan religious reformers, perhaps the arhat Pindola Bharadvaja, one of the chief disciples of the Buddha Shakyamuni. He is bare-headed and has a thin mustache. He is seated on a lotus throne with both hands in Dharmachakra mudra (sign of preaching or instruction). He is flanked by two figures. Below are protector deities; the damaged figures above appear to be monks and saints.
