The Koelz Collection of Himalayan Art

Metal Objects

Introduction

The Koelz collection contains several objects made of brass and copper, some with silver ornamentation. Koelz was a frugal collector and did not acquire the most elaborate or costly ritual objects used in religious worship. However, the more modest brass, wooden and copper bowls, jars, and ritual vessels in the collection provide insights on western Himalayan material culture of the early 20th century.
