The Koelz Collection of Himalayan Art

Wooden Objects

Introduction

Wooden objects in the Koelz Collection include printing blocks, used to print text and design on to prayer flags and other textiles; a large collection of wooden seals, and other objects including bread molds, a small wooden jar or snuff bottle, and a carved and painted plaster and wooden tablet. With the exception of book covers (17014), wooden objects associated with Buddhist ritual practices have received relatively little attention from scholars. Thirty-four wooden objects from the Koelz collection are exhibited here.
